Combination therapy of anabolic agents and bisphosphonates on bone mineral density in patients with osteoporosis: A meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
BMJ Open | Mar 13, 2018
Lou S, et al. - Experts sought to ascertain if the concomitant combination therapy of anabolic agents and bisphosphonates conferred more effects on bone mineral density (BMD) compared to anabolic agents alone in subjects with osteoporosis. A substantial improvement was obtained in the BMD at the total hip and femoral neck with a shorter term (6 to 12 months) due to concomitant combination therapy of anabolic agents and bisphosphonates compared with anabolic monotherapy. This combination therapy yielded similar benefits on BMD for the longer term (18 to 24 months). Furthermore, it was determined that the effect of concomitant combination therapy could be influenced by the dose of anabolic agents.
