Combination oral and mechanical bowel preparations decreases complications in both right and left colectomy

Midura EF, et al. - This study was planned to investigate the strategy for bowel preparation before elective colectomy to decrease surgical site infection (SSI) and anastomotic leak (AL). It was observed that in elective colectomy, mechanical bowel preparation with oral antibiotics was the preferred preoperative preparation strategy as it was associated with decreased incidence of SSI and AL.
