Combination of hemoglobin and low-flow duration can predict neurological outcome in the initial phase of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest

Journal of Critical Care Jul 19, 2018

Iiya M, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers assessed the efficacy of a combination of hemoglobin (Hb) and low-flow duration (LFD) in predicting neurological outcome following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). They performed multivariate logistic regression analyses focusing on the prediction of full neurological recovery (FNR), defined as Cerebral Performance Category scale scores of 1 or 2 at discharge, in 131 patients (75 ± 13 years, 64 men) with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) following non-traumatic OHCA. They detected high Hb levels and short LFDs among patients who experienced FNR post-OHCA. FNR was significantly predicted by the Hb/LFD value.
