Colonic crohn's disease is associated with less aggressive disease course than ileal or ileocolonic disease
Digestive Diseases and Sciences Apr 05, 2018
Arora U, et al. - Authors sought to elucidate the disease characteristics of colonic Crohn's disease (CD) adult patients (diagnosed by standard criteria, follow-up duration > 6 months) on follow-up between August 2004 and January 2016. They also attempted to compare it with that of ileal/ileocolonic disease. In contrast with ileal/ileocolonic CD, the frequency of inflammatory behavior, perianal disease and extra-intestinal manifestation was higher in colonic CD. Findings also demonstrated that the overall requirement for surgery was substantially lower in colonic CD and subjects with colonic disease presented with a lower cumulative probability of first surgery in the first 10 years of follow-up. It was determined that colonic CD correlated with less aggressive disease behavior.
