Colon cancer sidedness, presentation, and survival at different stages
Journal of Oncology Feb 26, 2019
Ulanja MB, et al. - Using a Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) population-based cohort, researchers evaluated the effect of laterality on colon cancer (CC) presentation and survival. According to this retrospective cohort study, left-sided CC (LCC) was related to superior overall survival (OS) and CC-specific survival (CSS) survival. Data reported that the median OS for right-sided CC (RCC) was 87 months. Investigators found that the overall survival advantage was attributed to stage I, III, and IV disease. If the CC is right-sided, individuals presenting with stage II disease showed superior survival.
