Collagenase followed by compression for the treatment of earlobe keloids
Dermatologic Surgery Aug 06, 2019
Bae-Harboe YSC, et al. - In this investigation, researchers tested the safety and clinical effectiveness of intralesional collagenase followed by compression for the treatment of earlobe keloids. In six patients, six earlobe keloids were injected with a commercial preparation of collagenase. Participants in the study were asked to use compression earrings daily afterwards. One day, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 10 months, and 12 months after injection, patients were examined and photographed. Investigators found that all patients had an average reduction of 50% in the size of their earlobe keloid. Side effects included swelling of the injection site, tenderness, and one ulceration which settled spontaneously within 2 weeks. Overall, the authors concluded that compression-followed intralesional collagenase appears to be a secure and modestly efficient earlobe keloid therapy.
