Colistin use in neonates and children with infections due to carbapenem-resistant bacteria
The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal Aug 26, 2017
Antachopoulos C, et al. – Researchers here utilized retrospective case series to gain evidence on the use of colistin in pediatric patients for infections caused by carbapenem–resistant bacteria. Observations revealed that the coadministration of colistin with other antimicrobial agents was associated with a relatively low rate of nephrotoxicity and a favorable outcome in >70% of these patients. They suggest performing a further study of colistin pharmacokinetics in children and neonates for optimization of dosage recommendations.
