Cognitive performance in first-degree relatives of individuals with vs without major depressive disorder: A meta-analysis
JAMA Psychiatry Mar 14, 2019
MacKenzie LE, et al. - Researchers investigated the cognitive performance of individuals with vs without a family history of the major depressive disorder (MDD) via this meta-analysis of 54 studies including more than 8,000 individuals. Findings revealed consistently poorer performance on cognitive tests of first-degree relatives of people with depression vs individuals with no family history of major mental illness. They noted generalization of cognitive impairment to most cognitive domains tested. These findings suggest a possible association of general cognitive impairment with familial risk for depression.
