Cognitive performance in chronic tinnitus patients: A cross-sectional study using the RBANS-
Otology & Neurotology Sep 19, 2019
Cardon E, Jacquemin L, Mertens G, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers thoroughly evaluated the cognitive functioning of tinnitus patients using a standardized test battery, a repeatable battery for assessing neuropsychological status adjusted for hearing impaired individuals (RBANS-H). Participants in the study were 28 chronic tinnitus patients and 28 control, matched for gender, age, hearing loss, and education level. The present research used the RBANS-H effectively to provide a wider perspective of cognitive functioning in patients with tinnitus. The findings showed a particular adverse tinnitus impact on verbal fluency, which could be linked to an executive cognitive control deficit. In addition, patients with louder tinnitus conducted worse on particular attention-related subtests.
