Cognitive outcomes in children and adolescents born very preterm: A meta-analysis
Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology | Mar 08, 2018
Brydges CR, et al. - This study was initiated in order to gauge the link between very preterm birth (<32wks' gestation) and intelligence, executive functioning, and processing speed throughout childhood and adolescence. Researchers also sought to inspect the effects of gestational age, birthweight, and age at assessment. Medium to large deficits in the cognitive domains were demonstrated among children born very preterm. It was deduced that gestational age and birthweight correlated with study effect size in intelligence and executive functioning of younger children only. No connection was discovered between age at assessment with study effect size.
