Solís-Vivanco R, et al. - Researchers analyzed cognition in never-medicated individuals at different stages of the illness in order to investigate the temporal nature of cognitive deficits on the schizophrenia spectrum. In schizophrenia, cognitive impairment is a key feature. While a 2019 study proposed that patients with psychosis experience a progressive decline in certain cognitive domains during the first 10 years of their illness, other clinical researches, and functional magnetic resonance imaging-based studies, have suggested that most cognitive deficits are present during the first episode and remain stable over time.
