European Journal of Pediatrics Aug 12, 2018
Hamed SA, et al. - In the present study, researchers examined general intelligence and specific cognitive functions in children with the salt wasting (SW) form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and their connection to demographic, clinical, and laboratory variables by analyzing data from 36 children with classic 21 hydroxylase deficiency SW type CAH. Results of this study suggested that patients with SW type CAH might have a lower intelligence quotient and cognitive deficits, which could be related to glucocorticoid dose, androgen excess, and the number of hyponatremic episodes.
