Coexisting abnormal esophageal body motility predicts clinical symptoms and bolus transit in patients with esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction (EGJOO)
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Jun 13, 2021
Jodorkovsky D, Wong D, Din R, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study for comparing the clinical presentations of esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction (EGJOO) with coexisting abnormal esophageal body motility (EBM) to isolated EGJOO. Between March 2018 and September 2018, consecutive adults diagnosed with EGJOO on high-resolution impedance-manometry at 2 academic centers were analyzed. Patients who had previously received achalasia treatment, foregut surgery, or evidence of obstruction were exempted. The sample consisted of 82 patients (72% women, age 61.1 ± 10.7 y). In patients with EGJOO, coexisting abnormal EBM is associated with esophageal symptoms (heartburn, regurgitation, chest pain, dysphagia) and bolus transit.
