Cochlear implant surgery and the risk of falls in an adult population
Otology & Neurotology Feb 04, 2018
Louza J, et al. - Herein, the results of cochlear implant surgery on the balance and risk of falls were assessed in an adult patient population using a mobile posturograph. As compared to a healthy population, the postural control in cochlear implant individuals was already decreased prior to the surgery. No significant increase was noted in the fall risk as a result of cochlear implant surgery when pre- and postoperative body sway measurements were compared. Hence, the balance and risk of falls were not influenced by the cochlear implant surgery in this study population.
