Cocaine use disorder in females is associated with altered social decision-making: A study with the Prisoner’s Dilemma and the Ultimatum Game
BMC Psychiatry Jul 13, 2019
Viola TW, et al. - In order to determine the relationship between cocaine use disorder and social decision-making, researchers monitored the behavior of 129 females diagnosed with cocaine use disorder and 55 females with no history of substance abuse in the Prisoner’s Dilemma and in the Ultimatum Game. Observations from both game paradigms support that cocaine use disorder influences social decision-making, with more cooperative behavior in the Prisoner’s Dilemma and a greater acceptance rate of unfair offers in the Ultimatum Game. Demographic and executive function variables did not influence associations between cocaine use disorder and altered social decision-making. Effects were more distinct in those with a long history of cocaine use.
