Co-infection with influenza-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents Nov 29, 2017
Rozencwajg S, et al. - Researchers determined the co-infection frequency and impact among patients with influenza-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). They observed a frequent occurrence of co-infection in ECMO-treated patients with influenza-associated ARDS. It affected ~50% of them and was independently associated with poor outcome. S. aureus was identified as the most common pathogen, with a high rate of Panton–Valentin leukocidin-positive S. aureus.
