Closed antegrade/retrograde intramedullary fixation of central metatarsal fractures: surgical technique and clinical outcomes
Injury Mar 18, 2020
Zarei M, et al. - Researchers evaluated the clinical outcomes of closed antegrade/retrograde intramedullary pinning technique. This study recruited a sum of 34 individuals (26 males and eight females) with 58 metatarsal neck and shaft fractures (28 shaft and 26 neck fractures), who were operated using the antegrade/retrograde intramedullary fixation technique. Pain intensity was measured using the visual analog scale and foot function was evaluated by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society forefoot scoring system at the final follow-up visit. Closed antegrade/retrograde intramedullary pinning was found to be a minimally invasive procedure to manage central metatarsal fractures. Metatarsal alignment can be restored and good clinical result is achieved after applying this technique.
