Clomiphene citrate and neural tube defects: A meta-analysis of controlled observational studies
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Apr 26, 2019
Auffret M, et al. - An updated quantitative meta-analysis of the risk of neural tube defects (NTDs) associated with periconceptional clomiphene citrate (CC) exposure was undertaken. The inclusion criteria were met by 13 studies totaling 218 819 pregnancies. No significant association of periconceptional exposure to CC with an increased risk of NTDs was identified. Findings verify that before or in early pregnancy, exposure to CC was correlated to a 21% raised risk of NTD in relation to CC exposure, however, this heightened risk is not statistically significant.
