Clinicopathology and survival in patients with gastroesophageal reflux after radical surgery of proximal gastric cancer
Digestive Diseases and Sciences Feb 19, 2018
Ying KM, et al. - This study was performed to associate the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux (GR) after proximal gastrectomy (PG) and total gastrectomy (TG) with clinicopathological factors and long-term survival in proximal gastric cancer (PGC) patient cohort. After radical resection for PGC, patients who experienced GR were more likely to develop recurrence and metastasis, leading to shorter survival. When compared to PG, TG for PGC was correlated with a more favorable 5-year overall survival. Thus, TG was recommended for PGC patients with tumors larger than 5 cm, T3/T4 disease or lymph node metastasis for the improvement of their long-term survival.
