Clinicopathological review of solitary fibrous tumors: Dedifferentiation is a major cause of patient death
Virchows Archiv Nov 14, 2019
Yamada Y, Kohashi K, Kinoshita I, et al. - In this study, the clinicopathological peculiarities of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT, a soft-tissue neoplasm of intermediate malignant potential, exhibiting a wide histopathological spectrum) were analyzed and the correlation between genetics and clinicopathological characteristics was investigated using 145 SFT cases. Tumor location was categorized into three categories, ie, pleuropulmonary (n = 30), non-pleuropulmonary/non-central nervous system (CNS, n = 96), and CNS tumors (n = 18). It was discovered that dedifferentiation is a chief prognostic factor of SFT, and particular location like cerebromeningeal and intra-abdominal site and hypoglycemia also had a great risk for unfavorable prognosis.
