Clinicopathological features, survival and risk in breast cancer survivors with thyroid cancer: An analysis of the SEER database
BMC Public Health Dec 11, 2019
Li S, Yang J, Shen Y, et al. - Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Database, researchers analyzed breast cancer (BC) survivors who had primary thyroid cancer (TC) in order to estimate the clinicopathological characteristics as well as survival in these individuals. They also explored the predictive factors on the risk of BC patients to develop TC. With a median age of 54 years, 842 BC then TC patients were examined. According to the findings, there were particular clinicopathological characteristics exhibited by BC patients followed by TC. These patients were younger, had a smaller tumor size and a relatively better prognosis, relative to the characteristics and survival of BC only patients. A high risk of developing TC, particularly within 3 years, was observed in BC patients. Predictive factors to develop TC included black women, primary tumor located in an upper-outer, central, or overlapping site, high grade tumor and with positive hormone receptor expression.
