Clinicopathological features, surgical strategy and prognosis of duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumors: A series of 300 patients
BMC Cancer May 20, 2018
Liu Z, et al. - Researchers explored the optimal surgical strategy and prognosis of duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), using data for 300 cases of duodenal GISTs obtained from their center (37 cases) and from case reports or series (263 cases) extracted from MEDLINE. They analyzed clinicopathological features, type of resections and survivals of duodenal GISTs. Limited resection (LR) was reported to be a more prevalent surgical procedure. For treating tumors with a larger diameter or located in descending portion, the predominantly preferred treatment method was pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). For the prognosis of duodenal GISTs, type of resection did not confer an independent risk. Significantly worse prognosis was reported for duodenal GISTs vs gastric GISTs.
