Clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of signet ring cell carcinoma of the gallbladder
BMC Gastroenterology Jun 09, 2021
Wang S, Li J, You J, et al. - Researchers used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database from 1973 to 2016, to examine the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC), which is a rare histological subtype of gallbladder adenocarcinoma. There were 22,781 gallbladder adenocarcinomas, 377 (1.7%) were SRC and the other 22,404 were non-SRC. More significant association with older age, female gender, poor differentiation, advanced tumor stage, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and advanced AJCC stage, was demonstrated by SRC. Findings revealed distinct clinicopathological features along with a poor prognosis of patients with SRC of the gallbladder. Improved survival can be achieved with surgery in combination with chemotherapy.
