Clinicopathological and prognostic value of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α in patients with bone tumor: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Feb 24, 2019
Luo D, et al. – Researchers evaluated data from 1,443 individuals to assess the association between hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and survival or clinicopathological characteristics of different bone tumors (chondrosarcoma, giant cell tumor of bone, and osteosarcoma). They noted a significant correlation between HIF-1α overexpression and differentiation, clinical stage, metastasis, and microvessel density of bone tumor. An association of high expression levels of HIF-1α with poorer overall survival (OS) and shorter disease-free survival (DFS) was evident upon further analysis. The authors, therefore, suggested HIF-1α as a possible prognostic marker for a bone tumor.
