Clinicopathological and immunological features of follicular pancreatitis – A distinct disease entity characterised by Th17 activation
Histopathology Feb 20, 2019
Ryota H, et al. - In this investigation, researchers evaluated the clinicopathological and immunological profiles of patients undergoing surgery with follicular pancreatitis. Participants in the study were three patients with pancreatic masses. Podoplanin (Th17 marker)-expressing lymphocytes were present in the lymphoid follicles of people with follicular pancreatitis. On the other hand, they were not present in normal lymph nodes and in lymphoid follicles of people with IgG4-related autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP). Investigators found that follicular pancreatitis is an entity of pancreatitis that is histopathologically and immunologically distinct and characterized by an upregulated expression of Th17. There were no storiform fibrosis, obliterative phlebitis or granulocytic epithelial lesions.
