Clinicopathologic features and lymph node metastatic characteristics in patients with adenocarcinoma manifesting as part-solid nodule exceeding 3 cm in diameter
Lung Cancer Sep 30, 2019
Li W, Zhou F, Wan Z, et al. - Researchers examined patients (n = 304) with adenocarcinoma manifested as persistent ground glass mass (GGM, ground glass opacity [GGO] exceeding 3 cm in diameter), to study the clinicopathologic and lymph node metastatic features in these individuals. The participants had undergone complete surgical resection between November 2013 and December 2017. They found that all of the GGMs > 3 cm were invasive adenocarcinoma. The likelihood of the presence of lymph node metastases was more in younger patients, tumors with solid size > 2.0 cm, more advanced clinical T stage, radiological solid-predominant tumors and acinar-predominant or papillary-predominant adenocarcinoma. As for solid-predominant GGMs > 3 cm, the likelihood of the presence of lymph node metastases was more in tumors with solid size > 2.0 cm, more advanced clinical T stage, acinar-predominant or papillary-predominant adenocarcinoma. Findings revealed an extremely low incidence of lymph node metastasis in GGO-predominant GGMs > 3 cm. Solid size vs whole tumor size was suggested to be a better predictor of lymph node metastasis in sold-predominant GGMs >3 cm.
