Clinicopathologic characteristics and optimal surgical treatment of duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery Aug 28, 2018
Lee SJ, et al. - Researchers analyzed 118 patients with localized duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) who underwent curative surgical resection at a single institution from July 2000 to April 2017 to determine the clinicopathological characteristics and survival outcomes based on the surgical procedure. In addition, they sought to suggest optimal surgical treatment for these patients. For patients with small-sized and antimesenteric-sided duodenal GIST, they suggest limited resection (LR) to be a feasible and effective surgical treatment in terms of late complications and postoperative diabetic complications. Compared to open LR, minimally invasive LR (MI-LR) showed better perioperative outcomes. Hence for selected patients with duodenal GIST, they recommend considering MI-LR as an optimal surgical treatment.
