Alqayoudhi A, et al. – The diagnostic accuracy of real–time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing was compared with traditional bacterial culture for detecting Streptococcus pneumoniae DNA in pediatric cerebrospinal fluid samples. Findings suggested that PCR testing for S. pneumoniae was sensitive and specific when compared with bacterial culture. PCR was useful in detecting those cases where blood culture was negative.
