Clinical usefulness of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and visinin-like protein-1 in early diagnostic tests for acute stroke
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Mar 01, 2019
Algin A, et al. - Researchers investigated the efficacy of BDNF and VILIP-1 as diagnostic markers in acute ischemic stroke and as predictors of mortality via analyzing 75 patients with acute ischemic stroke (aged > 18 years) and 28 normal controls in this study. Mean VILIP-1 levels in the study and control groups were not significantly different. Stroke patients displayed significantly lower mean BDNF levels vs control participants, indicating the value of BDNF level in discriminating stroke and control patients. However, BDNF level did not predict mortality.
