Clinical spectrum and factors impacting outcome of Candida auris: A single center study from Pakistan
BMC Infectious Diseases May 11, 2019
Sayeed MA, et al. - From a single center in Pakistan, researchers retrospectively studied 92 patients (52.2% males); ≥16 years with at least one culture positive for Candida auris, for the clinical spectrum and outcome. Though line associated infection was the main site of infection, patients with C. auris showed a wide clinical spectrum. Central lines (35), urinary tract (19), peritonitis (4), nosocomial ventriculitis (1), empyema (1), fungal keratitis (1) otitis externa (1) and surgical site (1) were the identified sites of infection. All patients were fluconazole resistant; 28.5% were voriconazole resistant and 7.9% were amphotericin resistant. The crude mortality rate was 42.4% while the 14-day mortality rate was 31.5%.
