Clinical significance of perifissural nodules in the oncologic population
Clinical Imaging Jun 06, 2019
Pernicka JSG, et al. - Through a retrospective review of computed tomography (CT) chests of a dedicated oncologic population, the investigators planned to evaluate the stability of perifissural nodules (PFNs). Oncologic patients with at least a three year follow at a tertiary care cancer center were included. The two patient cohorts were then compared—stable or decreased PFN vs increased PFN. No statistically significant PFN, clinical features, and ancillary information from the CT was proved yet since the majority of PFNs in oncology patients were decreased or unchanged in size, results were reassuring, presuming the nodules as benign and providing reassurance to oncologic colleagues and patients. Furthermore, examining the nodules by cancer type to further evaluate PFNs in the oncologic population in larger studies are warranted.
