Clinical significance of circulating tumor cells in predicting disease progression and chemotherapy resistance in patients with gestational choriocarcinoma
International Journal of Cancer Nov 01, 2018
He W, et al. - Given the highly aggressive nature of gestational choriocarcinoma (GC), researchers systematically analyzed patients with GC to investigate epithelial cellular adhesion molecule (EpCAM)/CD147 expression characteristics and the role of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in forecasting chemotherapy response and disease progression. For either EpCAM or CD147GC, GC tissues were positive, and all samples exhibited strong human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) expression. Findings demonstrate that CTC detection is feasible in cases of GC by adopting EpCAM/CD147 antibodies together as capturing antibodies. In GC patients, the CTC count is noted to be an encouraging indicator in the evaluation of biological activities and the chemotherapy response.
