Clinical significance of circulating omentin levels in various malignant tumors: Evidence from a systematic review and meta-analysis
Cytokine Oct 09, 2019
Arjmand MH, et al. - Researchers focused on the link between circulating omentin level and human cancer risk in this comprehensive meta-analysis of observational studies (n = 16) with 1,106 cases and 3,078 healthy controls. The included studies were published in English and were identified from health-related databases via an electronic search. In patients with colorectal, prostate, and breast cancers, a strong correlation between omentin level and cancer risk was identified in pooled standard mean difference analysis based on the cancer type. A potential role for omentin in the development of some obesity-associated cancers was suggested by the observed high circulating omentin levels in cancer patients with BMI ≥ 25. Findings revealed that the omentin level was significantly related to a greater risk of colorectal, pancreas, and breast tumors. For early identification of colorectal, prostate, and breast cancers particularly in overweight/obese people, circulating omentin level may serve as a potential new biomarker.
