Clinical predictors and survival outcome of patients receiving suboptimal neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radical cystectomy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer: A single-center experience
World Journal of Urology Feb 28, 2019
Boeri L, et al. - A total of 1,119 patients were assessed to investigate the clinical predictors and survival consequence in patients receiving suboptimal neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and radical cystectomy (RC) for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Suboptimal NAC was received by 26% of patients prior to matching, and the most significant factors associated with administration of suboptimal NAC were lower general health status and impaired renal functions. They noticed an achievement of higher rates of complete pathological response in the optimal NAC group vs the suboptimal group after matching. They concluded an association between receiving a suboptimal NAC regimen and worse disease recurrence and survival outcomes following surgery vs an optimal NAC regimen.
