Clinical phenotypes and therapeutic responses in cutaneous‐predominant sarcoidosis: 6‐year experience in a tertiary referral service
Clinical and Experimental Dermatology Apr 29, 2021
Paolino A, Galloway J, Birring S, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to describe treatment modalities and responses in patients with predominantly cutaneous sarcoidosis, as well as clinical characteristics and prevalence of systemic disease. Data were collected prospectively over a 6‐year period. They used the Cutaneous Sarcoidosis Activity and Morphology Index to evaluate treatment effectiveness. A total of 47 patients with biopsy‐confirmed cutaneous sarcoidosis were identified. Papules and plaques were the most common morphological lesions. The head and neck were the most commonly affected sites. Hydroxychloroquine is both effective and well‐tolerated. When compared with azathioprine and mycophenolate mofetil, methotrexate was associated with a significantly higher likelihood of achieving clinical remission.
