Clinical outcomes of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment treated with pneumatic retinopexy
JAMA Ophthalmology Jun 22, 2021
Yannuzzi NA, Li C, Fujino D, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study involving 9,553 patients (9,659 eyes), researchers described the clinical outcomes associated with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) treated primarily with pneumatic retinopexy (PR). Data from patients 19 years and older with noncomplex RRD treated at academic and private ophthalmology practices partaking in the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight) have been analyzed. Single-operation success was achieved in 68.5% of eyes with noncomplex RRD treated by primary PR in this registry-based study, which included a large number of eyes drawn from multiple, heterogeneous electronic health record systems. It is unknown how these outcomes would have compared with other RRD repair methods in this cohort.
