Clinical outcomes of endoscopic mucosal resection for rectal neuroendocrine tumor
BMC Gastroenterology Jun 08, 2018
Kim J, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective analysis to evaluate the rates of histologically complete resection (H-CR) and recurrence after endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). They retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients who underwent EMR for rectal NET at Seoul National University Hospital from January 2002 to March 2015. Histologically complete resection (H-CR) and recurrence rates after endoscopic resection were the primary outcomes. It was observed that H-CR rates were 72–74% for the investigated EMR procedures, while the en-bloc resection rate was 99% in rectal NETs. Regardless of endoscopic treatment modalities, H-CR might be correlated with tumor size.
