Clinical outcomes of cervical spinal surgery for cervical myelopathic patients with coexisting lumbar spinal canal stenosis (tandem spinal stenosis): A retrospective analysis of 297 cases
Spine Feb 02, 2018
Yamada T, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the prevalence as well as clinical characteristics of tandem spinal stenosis (TSS) in patients with cervical myelopathy including ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the cervical spine (C-OPLL). They observed worse prognosis for TSS patients with myelopathy as compared with that for patients with isolated cervical lesions. Higher recovery rates were shown by younger C-OPLL patients, even those with TSS, in comparison with non-C-OPLL patients. A possible influence of aging and coexistent lumbar lesions on the recovery process following surgery for cervical myelopathy was also suggested in this work.
