Clinical outcomes and patterns of care in the treatment of carcinosarcoma of the breast
Cancer Medicine Mar 19, 2019
Kennedy WR, et al. - Researchers examined population-based treatment patterns and overall survival (OS) outcomes in 329 patients diagnosed with carcinosarcoma of the breast recognized using the National Cancer Database. Patients had surgery in the form of mastectomy or lumpectomy, with or without chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. They excluded patients with metastatic disease. Outcomes revealed relatively poor rates of OS in correlation with carcinosarcoma of the breast. Improved OS was observed with the addition of chemotherapy (CT) and radiation therapy (RT) to surgery. Compared to surgery alone, trimodality therapy and surgery plus CT led to the highest OS.
