Patients who survive intensive care unit (ICU) treatment for COVID-19 were followed up for 1 year to report on the occurrence of physical, mental, and cognitive symptoms 1 year after ICU treatment.

• This exploratory multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted in ICUs of 11 Dutch hospitals.

• A total of 246 patients who were alive 1 year following ICU treatment for COVID-19 were included.

• Physical symptoms were reported in 74.3%, mental symptoms in 26.2%, and cognitive symptoms in 16.2%.

• Following were the most frequently reported new physical problems: weakened condition, joint stiffness, joint pain, muscle weakness and myalgia.

• Overall findings suggest frequent presence of physical, mental, and cognitive symptoms 1 year after ICU treatment for COVID-19.
