Clinical outcomes after lung stereotactic body radiation therapy in patients with or without a prior lung resection
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Jun 28, 2018
Hou Y, et al. - In this study involving patients with 141 peripheral tumors treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), researchers compared post-SBRT tumor control (TC), toxicity, and survival, between patients with and without a prior lung resection (PLR). Primary TC and lobar control (LC) were defined per RTOG 0236. They used Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 4.0 to score toxicity. Univariable/multivariable analyses for radiation pneumonitis (RP) were carried out using Fine and Gray regression. They found high local control and relatively low toxicity in patients with PLR who received lung SBRT for lung tumors. In patients with PLR, SBRT is an excellent option to treat second lung tumors or pulmonary metastases.
