Clinical outcome of patients with high-risk endometrial carcinoma after treatment with chemotherapy only
International Journal of Gynecological Cancer Nov 06, 2018
Smogeli E, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to determine the outcomes of patients with endometrial cancer (EC) treated with adjuvant chemotherapy only in a population where the routine administration of adjuvant radiotherapy was omitted. They analyzed 230 patients with EC with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage I type II, stage Ib type I/G3, stage II, and IIIc disease treated at Oslo University Hospital from 2005-2012. Hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and at least pelvic lymphadenectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy comprised the standard treatment. They noted acceptable vaginal/pelvic control rates after adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with high-risk EC. However, for patients with stage IIIc disease, prognosis remained poor even after chemotherapy.
