Clinical outcome of free latissimus dorsi flaps for coverage of soft tissue defects in multiply revised total knee replacements
Journal of Arthroplasty Aug 21, 2020
Raymond AC, Liddle AD, Alvand A, et al. - This study was attempted to assess implant survivorship, infection status, and patient-reported outcomes of patients who had undergone simultaneous revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and latissimus dorsi (LD) flaps in a tertiary unit. Researchers conducted a retrospective study of 18 consecutive patients who had revision TKA and free LD flap reconstruction (twelve were male and the median age was 65 years [35-83]). The primary endpoint included revision-free implant survival. The soft tissue integrity, Oxford Knee Score (OKS) and EQ5D at latest follow-up were considered as secondary outcomes. For limb salvage, latissimus dorsi a free flap is a viable option in patients with large anterior soft tissue defects following multiple revisions of TKA. Nevertheless, functional outcomes can be poor and a significant risk of on-going infection and amputation were noted in this complex patient cohort.
