Clinical management and patient outcomes of acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding. A multicenter, prospective, cohort study
Digestive and Liver Diseases Jan 29, 2021
Radaellin F, Frazzoni L, Repici A, et al. - Among adult outpatients acutely admitted for or developing lower GI bleeding (LGIB) during hospitalization, researchers conducted this present multicenter, prospective cohort study with the aim to determine mortality and linked risk factors and to report patient management. They included 1,198 patients overall (1,060 new admissions;138 inpatients). The in-hospital mortality (primary outcome) was reported to be 3.4%. Observations revealed age and comorbidities hare the main factors related to mortality in LGIB patients. Although early colonoscopy has a relevant diagnostic yield (78%) and is linked with higher therapeutic intervention rate, no improved clinical outcomes were observed in correlation with endoscopic hemostasis.
