Clinical impact of a structured secondary cardiovascular prevention program following acute coronary syndromes: A prospective multicenter healthcare intervention
PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases Feb 28, 2019
Carballo D, et al. - Considering structured secondary cardiovascular prevention programs (SSCP) after acute coronary syndromes (ACS) could lower major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) via enhanced adherence to post-ACS recommendations, researchers performed a prospective multicenter cohort study assessing the outcomes of two sequential post-ACS patient cohorts, the first getting standard care (SC) followed by one getting additional interventions (SSCP) intended to enhance patient education as well as healthcare provider and hospital systems. Outcomes suggest improved control of cardiovascular risk factor and attendance to cardiac rehabilitation programs, in addition to significantly reducing cardiac death, MI and stroke at one year for patients ≤65years old was correlated to the implementation of an SSCP post-ACS.
