Clinical impact of a new cone beam CT angiography respiratory motion artifact reduction algorithm during hepatic intra-arterial interventions
European Radiology Dec 09, 2019
Burgio MD, Benseghir T, Roche V, et al. - For intraprocedural image guidance during intra-arterial liver-directed therapy, researchers evaluated the effect of recently developed respiratory motion correction software on contrast-enhanced cone beam CT angiography (CBCT-a). Two groups of patients who had intra-arterial liver-directed therapy with (breathing, n = 30) or without (still, n = 30) significant respiratory motion artifacts were retrospectively involved from 2015 to 2017. In the breathing group, motion correction increased the average image quality from 2.0 ± 0.9 to 2.9 ± 1.0. Using the respiratory motion correction technology will minimize the need for retake of CBCT-a. Motion correction technology significantly increases identification of vessel geometry, extrahepatic vessels, and tumor feeders, as well as tumor conspicuity in CBCT-a distorted by respiratory motion artifacts. Using respiratory motion correction technology uncorrupted by respiratory motion error on CBCT-a does not result in reduced image quality.
