Clinical, immunological, and virological outcomes among youths with perinatal HIV after transition to adult units in Spain from 1997 to 2016
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Jan 18, 2021
Aguilera-Alonso D, Sainz T, Jimenez de Ory S, et al. - Researchers aimed at describing clinical and immunovirological status in patients with perinatal HIV that participated in the Spanish multicenter pediatric HIV cohort (CoRISpe) and were transferred to adult care (FARO cohort). Overall, they included 332 youths. After transition, improvement in virological suppression occurred in the early transition periods, and immunological status remained stable. Nevertheless, higher risk of worse outcomes was evident for some patients. Female gender, being born abroad and virological failure (VF) at transition were the identified risk factors for VF after transition, and Romani heritage, younger age at transition, lower CD4 nadir, and CD4 at transition were risk factors for lower CD4 after transition.
