Clinical features and outcomes of invasive breast cancer: Age-specific analysis of a modern hospital-based registry
Journal of Global Oncology Oct 15, 2019
Kim JY, Kang D, Nam SJ, et al. - Through a retrospective cohort study done at a university-based hospital in Seoul, South Korea, between January 2003 and December 2011, of 6,405 women who were aged 18 years or older and had pathologically verified stage I, II, or III breast cancer (BC), who underwent curative surgery followed by adjuvant therapy, researchers assessed the clinical characteristics and outcomes of invasive BC among various age groups by investigating a modern BC registry including subtypes and treatment information. Between age and mortality, a robust J-shaped correlation was remarked, designating worse clinical outcomes in young and elderly people. Moreover, a possible advantage of personalized BC screening examination and specific and active treatment approaches to decrease BC-related mortality was suggested.
