Clinical features and outcomes of COVID-19 in older adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Singhal S, Kumar P, Singh S, et al. - Researchers intended to determine the clinical features of older coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, via this systematic review and meta-analysis. They identified relevant observational studies from PubMed and Scopus, via a systematic exploration. They analyzed 46 studies including 13,624 older patients. Presence of severe infection was detected in nearly half of older patients suffering from COVID-19. It was found that one in five were critically ill and one in ten died. Hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease were documented as the common comorbidities. Fever, cough and dyspnoea were experienced as common symptoms. Oxygen support was needed in 84% and mechanical ventilation was necessary in 21%.
