Clinical features and outcome of hepatosplenic fungal infections in children with hematological malignancies

Madney Y, Shalaby L, Elanany M, et al. - In this retrospective analysis including all pediatric hematological malignancies individuals with hepatosplenic candidiasis (HSC) treated in Children Cancer Hospital Egypt (2013-2018), experts analyzed the clinical characteristics, diagnostic tools and treatment outcome of pediatric cases with hematological malignancies who developed chronic disseminated candidiasis (CDC), recognized according to the widely accepted diagnostic European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Study Group criteria. In pediatric leukemias individuals with an influence on treatment delay and survival outcome, HSC was still a significant hurdle. Nonetheless, PET scan, non-culture diagnostics, and steroid role evidence in IRS were growing. Moreover, for screening, early disclosure for high-risk individuals and superior response evaluation antifungal stewardship is challenging.
